SUPERPLUS Passes Seismic Qualification for Tension Tests

(27.10.2010)Simpson Strong-Tie/LIEBIG is pleased to announce that the easy to install SUPERPLUS anchor has been tested in accordance to ACI 355.2 and has passed the Seismic Qualification for tension tests with no performance reduction.

The SUPERPLUS, self undercut anchor, is already recognised under European Technical Approval ETA-01/0011 and holds the ETA Option 1 approval for cracked and non cracked concrete. However, since there is no seismic tension qualification method defined in the European Technical Guideline (ETAG 001), Simpson Strong-Tie/LIEBIG had both embedment depths of the M12 and the M16 SUPERPLUS tested under the seismic tension provisions of American Concrete Institute's ACI 355.2 Qualification of Post-Installed Mechanical Anchors and Commentary.

Testing was carried out and witnessed by the independent laboratory of Wiss, Janney Elstner Associates Inc, Northbrook, Illinois. Jon Freeman, of Simpson Strong Tie/LIEBIG, said: “ACI 355.2 is a widely accepted form of testing in the United States and is very similar to ETAG 001, but it does include a seismic qualification method.

'The SUPERPLUS anchors passed the seismic tension requirements of AC1 355.2 and therefore it is appropriate to use the design data from ETA-01/0011 without reduction to resist seismic forces.'
